PEDAL LOOM: CRAFT AND HEART
Pedal loom is a weaving technique introduced to Mexico by the Spanish in the 16th century. Large wooden structures, usually operated by men, allow for the creation of fabrics of different weights and widths. The pedal loom used to elaborate some of our fabrics, is made in Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, a small and magic town located in the southern side of Mexico.
Usually handled by men, the loom requires synchronized movement of hand and feet and enough strength to tighten the threads within the weave in order to obtain larger fabrics. Collectiva currently works with 8 artisans and their leader. They have given our garments a special touch and allowed us to create our own textiles.
